Norman and Matt attended the traditional opening of the Humber Business Week with over 400 other delegates at the Bondholders event held at the excellent Middleton Hall Theatre at the University of Hull.
Biz Week was expertly opened by Kath Lavery the Chair of Biz Week (interestingly Kath is also the Chair of the Yorkshire Ambulance Service and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance is Agenda's charity of the year this year). Anita Pace, Chair of the Bondholders then formally opened the event and introduced inspirational speaker Zoe Jackson MBE, Zoe set up dance troupes and academies aimed at inspiring young people through her "Living the Dream" company. The chances are you will have seen one of her “flash mob” events of dancers at a train station on TV, Facebook or YouTube?
Next there was a short stage event based upon stories of young people from the Humber that also include a note to his younger self speech from Alan Johnson MP that was both thought provoking and funny. Lastly, the Bondholders showed their new film that #Whereitbegins which aims to work with young people and organisations to help people to recognise their potential. A well organised and well attended opening event, congratulations go to the Bondholder team!
Later that day, Norman, Carl and Toby attended the Institute of Director (IOD) lunch, this was another popular event with over 300 attending at the KCOM Stadium. Norman got there early as he is now a member of the regional IOD board and had the unexpected pleasure of spending 30-40 minutes in the company of the guest speaker Midge Ure (Ultravox/Band Aid/Live Aid/Masterchef) before the event started. Pat Coyle, Chair of the regional IOD opened and closed the event with aplomb. As always there were excellent networking opportunities, the RSM choir did an excellent performance and Midge Ure was engaging, funny and clearly hugely talented as well as being quite humble about the huge amounts of money raised with Bob Geldof through Band Aid and Live Aid to help the famine in Ethiopia and other parts of Africa.
Overall and excellent start to Biz Week, Agenda are participating fully by attending events, donating “Hire Me” effective hiring courses as prizes for the event, working with the Humber Business Resilience Forum to deliver some “Protecting Your Digital Footprint” talks and Chris and Carl are attending the closing event at Bridlington Spa at the end of the week.
