The Humber Business Resilience Forum ran an excellent ‘Are you prepared for a Cyber Attack’ event today. Led by Detective Sergeant Steven Dennison from the Cybercrime Investigation Team, Humberside Police, he was joined by one of the UKs top data security consultants, Tom Chappelow from Data Protection People.
The event stressed the importance of not only having plans and accreditations for data security, but the need to ensure that the associated procedures actually work, with regular testing of recovery scenarios. But with all these procedures in place, a weak link still exists; people. It’s your staff who need to implement the procedures and the senior leadership team who need to create and sustain a culture of vigilance and challenge.
Getting the right people to start with, using pre-employment screening and then checking their on-going suitability through periodic re-screening, is a key element of a successful defence against people related fraud and data breaches.
