A new global standard calls for all workers to be screened when entering airport restricted areas; Europe supports the change, while the US, Canada and Australia have all opposed it causing a divide. It’s currently not clear on whether the proposal will be approved, or how much it would cost if it was.
All airports in Europe (and some in the US) already require 100% staff screening, though the current minimum standard is only mandate random screening – Washington argues that the new proposal could increase passenger congestion and costs, and is not proven to be more effective than the current practice.
