In early July, the government announced that it intends to make changes to the criminal records disclosure rules in the UK in order to ensure an equal balance between rehabilitating offenders and protecting the general public.
“The new legislation will remove the requirement for automatic disclosure of youth cautions, reprimands and warnings and remove the ‘multiple conviction’ rule, which requires the automatic disclosure of all convictions where a person has more than one conviction, regardless of the nature of their offence or sentence.”
The change will, in particular, benefit those who were cautioned as children and those with minor offences in their past that they have moved away from. The changes come as part of the government’s commitment to increase employment rates for ex-offenders.
